'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Reid Wants Us To Rack Up The Points Early

Steven Reid has said the Baggies need to focus on grabbing points now, so that survival isn't dependent on our derby double header at the cusp of the end of the season.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Reid said that he hoped the team could put enough points on the table so that the pressure that will be added by back to back derbies is somewhat taken off the players.

In his mind the last thing we need after the season we've had is to absolutely require maximum points when we play Villa and Wolves in order to survive.

'If you look at the last few games we're four unbeaten at the right time of the season, the trouble is other clubs are doing the same. The derbies are great occasions for the fans and the players want to play in decent atmospheres. It's a tough run but hopefully we'll have enough points already and we'll be able to enjoy the occasions a little bit more.'

With the run of games we have,it's unlikely I think that Reid will get his wish to have some of the pressure off come the derbies, but stranger things have happened and we know on our day we can more than match anybody, so our fate as ever, is in our own hands.

Reid adds in the interview.

'It would be nice if all the local teams can stay in the league.'

Although to be fair, he does say that is probably unlikely but you've got to admit there would be a certain humourous overtone to the end of the season if victories against those two put them down, and by that point in the season our recent 3 points against Blues came back to haunt them.

Maybe I'm just in one of those moods?
