Morrison Hoping To Keep His Place

James Morrison wasn't expecting to play in the Blues derby, but following the injury to Dorrans, he's hoping he did enough to convince Hodgson to keep him in the team.

Morrison obviously bagged us a goal and put in a decent performance overall, but he admitted he was pleased he got a head's up that he might be playing on the Friday because he says himself:

'It was hard because I was in the mindset that I wasn't playing and you can switch off. Luckily I got a sniff on Friday that I might be playing, so I prepared properly and I got the nod and got a goal as well.'

Morrison says that Hodgson must have realised he was up for the game, and was determined to prove him wrong for putting him on the bench but having done that he knows he now has to keep his place again and give Roy no reason to drop him.

'The gaffer must have realised I was up for proving him wrong, I have got my chance now and I have got myself in the team. The lads were winding me up and saying I had gone from zero to hero in the space of 24 hours, but football changes.'

At least Morrison has given Hodgson a good headache when Dorrans returns to fitness. Both are good players and it should drive them both on to be at their best knowing somebody can come in and do a good job in their absence.

Competition for places can often be more important than most credit it for.
