Vela Will Be A Huge Player

Carlos Vela may not be able to impress against Arsenal due to the terms of his loan agreement but Dan Ashworth believes he's going to have a great future with them once he returns.

Speaking to the Express & Star Dan Ashworth, the Baggies Sporting and Technical Director said everybody involved with the club were already delighted with the impact that Vela had made and seeing him both in training and on the pitch, it was no wonder that Wenger wasn't interested in anything other than a loan spell and had stated that Vela was a big part of his plans for the future.

'Carlos is a very exciting young player and Arsenal rate him very highly. They were only interested in a loan because he is going to be a big part of their future plans. Arsenal have got high hopes for Carlos and you can see why.'

It's certainly a set of quotes that you can accuse of 'stating the obvious,' Carlos is going to be, or should be, a very accomplished player in the future and he has all the attributes necessary to perform in the top leagues for the media friendly Top 4, if not abroad.

But without the cynical hat on, the point Ashworth makes should show fans a considered change for the better, and the future aspirations of the club.

Getting a player of Vela's quality even if he remains raw at this stage, is a serious attempt to improve us in the short term but my eyes were mainly drawn to the comment that Arsenal were only interested in a loan deal.

I can only read that as though we muted the possibility of a permanent signing, and if the club are going to refocus on young, talented and highly rated players such as Vela, whether or not such attempts come off all the time, we can surely only be placing ourselves on a good footing as we build for the future, attempt to become an established element in the Premier League and then obviously do our best to push on from there.
