Jonas Olsson has said today that victories like the Blues clash are the best way for the players to give the fans something to cheer about after a disappointing season.
Speaking to wba.co.uk Olsson says that despite the Baggies being praised for playing 'proper football' but not picking up the results to match, he thinks fans will better appreciate the more defensively minded approach Roy Hodgson is insisting on whereby we play well, but at all times ensure we pick up points as we go.
'I feel we are a bit more cynical in our approach with a few more men behind the ball, but for me as a player it's entertaining getting results.'
Olsson adds that especially after the season we've had, he thinks fans now will appreciate points far more than the manner in which we gain them, but even allowing for that we are still going to try and play the game in the right way.
'Entertainment for me is winning a game and there are a few thousand fans on Saturday who liked the three points - and the way we get them on board is irrelevant. I still think we try to play good football and we showed that on Saturday.'
With the focus being more defensive now, Jonas also feels that we are closer to gaining a clean sheet again now with the work that has been put in, and of course if we can keep it tight at the back and keep it clean, we obviously have players who can put the ball in the net at the other end.
'We look more solid and we have been working hard on our shape as a unit. I think that has shown in the last couple of games. It can be better but we are getting closer to it in every game.'
