Scharner To Shine In Midfield For Roy

Roy Hodgson believes that Paul Scharner's Albion future will lie in the middle of the park because of his battling abilities.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Hodgson said he didn't believe that he would play Scharner in defence again, as the only position that makes sense to him is centre midfield because of what the player brings to the table.

'It was an important goal he scored but he is a battler and it is a time for battlers at West Brom. I am sure because of his characteristics he is the type of player who could play in any position if you wanted, but I've always seen Paul as a midfielder.'

Despite being pleased with what he's seen so far, Hodgson insists that midfield still have a lot of work to do and he's looking for even more out of them as the season comes to a close.

'I still think we've got a lot of work to do on the shape, especially in midfield. Don't give them too much praise because there is a lot to be done, and I think we can be even stronger if we get our positional play right.'

Blues was a long due reward for the work that the players have been putting in under Hodgson, but it's good to see he's still pushing them to be even better and work even harder. The Blues result needs to be the first of many because we haven't made it yet, but it sounds like the attitude from the top is spot on in this regard.
