Long term friend of Hodgson and former Baggie Don Howe has said Roy wouldn't have taken the job unless he was sure the club had enough about it to survive.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail Howe said Hodgson would've known all about the club and the playing staff ahead of accepting the job and if he thought relegation was fated he wouldn't have accepted.
'Roy has gone into the club that's only got a few games left, mark my words, he'll have taken that job because he fancies their chances of survival.'
Howe obviously has plenty of praise for his old friend, but he does describe him as totally absorbed by football but more importantly teams of his are:
'Organised and keep their discipline,' which is obviously something we require in our current battle, before adding:
'West Brom will benefit from his experience and appreciation of football. He's a good appointment.'
Time will tell on the final comment, but Hodgson hasn't started his Baggies association badly. Some wins and survival and then seeing what he can do in the summer will go a long way to proving Don's point.
