Manager Roy Hodgson has said that he believes Carlos Vela is now ready to start regular matches in the Premiership, after bagging his debut goal against Wolves.
Speaking to wba.co.uk Hodgson said that Vela's age isn't an issue as his fitness and talent should more than see him through 90 minutes, and he's expecting Vela to play a big role in our remaining 11 games.
'Carlos is ready to start games, he's 21, so he's not that young.'
Vela has had to make do with sub appearances since his first start against Wigan, but no doubt the player will be pleased to hear the manager expects him to play a bigger part as the season draws to a close.
'He certainly showed enough in his 20 minute spell against Wolves that I'm to take him seriously and it's good that he took his chance well. Carlos was lively, got hold of the ball, used it well and gave us impetus.'
Hodgson is no doubt enjoying working with the Arsenal youngster, as he previously tried to sign him on loan whilst still manager of Fulham. Injury put paid to any chance of a loan spell then, but he seems to have started working well with the other players at the club and with only 11 games left there is plenty of time for him to really make an impact at the club.
