Roy's Response: Vela In Good Fortune

Roy Hodgson singled out Carlos Vela and Marc-Antoine Fortune for special praise following our derby day draw with Wolves.

Speaking on wba.co.uk after the game, the manager was delighted with Vela's impact in the game - not least because he secured us a point.

'Carlos did very, very well...he's very interesting. Arsenal don't make mistakes with talents they sign.'

Not only was the new manager pleased with the loan signings contribution in the game, he also had plenty of praise for Fortune who he described as an 'unsung hero' in the game despite his spurned chance that could've put us level far earlier in the match.

'He did a very good job for the team. His target play was excellent, as was his selfless running and work off the ball.'

Hodgson goes onto say that Fortune wasn't happy come the end of the game because he knows he should've found the net and he knows that fans will judge him on his goalscoring exploits and not on the work he does getting into good positions, when he then fails to convert the chances created.

You look at the Stats from the game and you even look at our recent results and scoring isn't often our problem, it's the sloppy mistakes that have prevented us from taking maximum points and I at least don't think we've been playing too badly in the main.

If we are going to leak goals as we have been though we'll need Fortune and others to start scoring double if we want to pull away from the bottom.
