During the Summer England fans witnessed the worst ever World Cup finals display by an England team. However, the Football Association decided to stay behind Fabio Capello and confirm that he would stay in his role until at least after the Euro Championship finals. The FA have acted with extreme cowardice in not removing the Italian manager and he has been happy to keep taking his obscene salary following his abject failure in South Africa, if not sacked he should have resigned.
The fact of the matter is that Capello has been unable to inspire his England team and his selections have been bizarre in the extreme. Choosing Gibbs to play at left back when he played a handful of minutes all season is an absolute insult to the English based players who could comfortably fill that role, for example, Nicky Shorey has been excellent at left back this season for the Baggies and surely deserved his chance ahead of Gibbs. The inclusion of Jay Bothroyd, who has not been a consistent performer in the Championship before this season, ahead of Kevin Davies is unfathomable.
Capello's judgment is questionable as was demonstrated with the debacle that was the Capello index at the World Cup, he is uninspiring and clearly not getting the best out of the squad, he doesn't appear to have a plan or a strategy for the team and its about time he stepped aside for somebody who will care, who can inspire and who wants the best for the England football team.
My vote goes to Harry Redknapp.
