Bad Luck For Injured Baggies Pair

Bad news on the injury front. Zoltan Gera has undergone surgery for his groin injury having sat out the last five matches in the hope that the rest would cure the problem. He is now set for a further six weeks or so on the sidelines.

Robson explained: 'Zoltan has had this ongoing problem with his groin for a while now. We were hoping to avoid surgery but he isn't really progressing. We now feel this is the best course of action. His rehabilitation will probably take up to six weeks.'

Chris Kirkland isn't quite so far off but will still be missing for a couple of weeks having bruised his kidney in the game against Bolton in October. The Baggies had hoped to play him this Saturday against Everton after he sat out the last two games, but they have decided they can't take the risk.

Assistant manager Nigel Pearson said: 'It's quite a serious injury which can be very dangerous if you ignore it and with a goalkeeper throwing himself around the risk is even greater. It is frustrating for him, and I'm aware he's keen to put this tag behind him of being injury prone, but they have been serious injuries. We're disappointed for him because we know how keen is to make a career for himself as a regular goalkeeper.'
