Fee agreed for Haber

Fee agreed for Haber

West Brom have agreed a deal with Vancouver Whitecaps to sign striker Marcus Haber for an undisclosed fee.

As reported here, the 20-year-old Haber joined Albion for a four day training spell in November and, after impressing the management, is flying into England to finalise his move. This will all be subject to the usual agreeing of personal terms and passing a medical.

Haber has represented Canada at the U-17, U-20 and U-23, playing as both a striker and a central defender. 2009 was a breakout year for the young Canadian as he was named USL First Division Rookie of the Year, as well as picking up the Newcomer of the Year and Fan Favourite awards with the Whitecaps.

In July 2006, Haber made the move to Europe when, as a 17 year old, he joined the youth set-up of Dutch Eredivisie club FC Groningen. After being released by FC Groningen at the end of the 2007-08 season, he trialled with English sides Leeds United, Hartlepool United and Gillingham FC, but didn't sign any contracts and returned to Canada in early 2009.

Haber recently completed a highly-successful first season in Canada, scoring eight goals and recording four assists during the United Soccer Leagues First Division campaign.
