Gianni Zuiverloon - West Brom: PFA interview
West Brom full back Gianni Zuiverloon is hoping to be involved in another Great Escape at The Hawthorns this season.
Four years ago, Albion survived on the last day despite being bottom of the Premier League at Christmas. Albion may have to do something similar again this time after a series of poor results which have seen them take one point from a possible 24 after allowing Wigan to come from behind to beat them at the weekend.
But Holland Under 21 international Zuiverloon has also seen Albion beat West Ham, Middlesbrough and Fulham this season and knows it is still possible to pull away from the drop zone. Zuiverloon is in his first season at Albion after arriving from Herenveen and remembers little of the club`s last Houdini act, but he is not prepared to throw in the towel yet. Givemefootball.com`s Ian Clarkson spoke to Zuiverloon as the crunch Christmas period approaches.
WHAT`S THE CONFIDENCE LIKE AMONG THE PLAYERS AFTER A DISAPPOINTING RUN OF RESULTS?
We have to keep our confidence high because we are not playing badly. We have good movement around the park and only the last part is a little bit difficult for us. It is a little bit difficult for us to score. That is what we are missing. We are playing good football and if we were scoring goals, the back four would have less pressure than we have now. We can`t afford to make any mistakes.
THE MANAGER LIKES TO PLAY AN ENTERTAINING PASSING GAME. DO YOU THINK THAT WILL BE THE CASE EVEN IF YOU STAY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TABLE?
I think so. We have to stick to our game and we need to play that way because we have the players who can do it. We have learned some lessons over last few weeks - the teams we are playing against, don't have so many chances against us but, when they do get them, they score. We get two or three chances and we don`t. Not taking chances is costing us and then there are stupid mistakes by the back four sometimes.
THERE AREN`T MANY PLAYERS IN THE ALBION SIDE WITH PREMIER LEAGUE EXPERIENCE. IS THAT COSTING YOU AS WELL?
