Fans behind formation

The fans have spoken: Mowbrays formation choices supported.

In a poll on this site questioning the use of a 4-51 vs. a 4-4-2, 40% of fans backed the manager's choice, with a firther 17% backing the 4-5-1 outright.

Meanwhile, nearly a fifth of voters siad neither works - and with the Baggies propping up the table perhaps they are right?

In my humble opinion, the formation makes little difference; it is the personnel we need, and two additions (holding midfielder, goal machine) would see us improve dramatically. Time will tell.

Results in full:

4-5-1 - More chances & defend better 17%
4-4-2 - Score more goals 25%
Happy with whatever the Manager decides 40%
Neither 4 4 2 or 4 5 1 works 18%

The experience of most premiership teams is that if you play 4-5-1 most of your goals need to come from midfield. Lampard at Chelsea and Gerrard at Liverpool are good examples. But the City experience is even more clear. Almost all City goals come from midfield, this season Robinho, SWP and Ireland, last season from Elano and Petrov.

I agree. Last season Koren and Teixeira banged in several for us but there are big question marks over these two (especially the former) for scoring at this level. Add into the mix the departure of KP and identifying where the goals are gonna come from is tricky. Valero, for all his class, is not going to bag many goals. 4-4-2 for me. Ireland, incidently, is different gravy this season, what a class player.

we need a striker who can score in the prem - even if we play 0-0-10 with the lads weve not get many more
Shefbaggie
I like the 4-5-1 but Greening and Valero in the same team (and Tex too when fit) is just a waste - they all play too much in the same role. Its like the Gerrard and Lampard debate with slightly less quality. Maybe slip Cech in as a def mid?
mightystripes
cechs done nothing when we've given him a chance

He's hardly been given one - but he didn't inspire against Boro away. You've got to give players a run though. Luke Moore being a case in point - we've no idea what he can do!
