Zuiverloon excites the Albion faithful

New West Brom utility defender Gianni Zuiverloon has topped a poll on this site to see which of the new recruits at the Hawthorns the fans are most excited by.

In a busy summer at B71, which saw over ten new faces come through the doors, some of which were loan deals made permanent (Bednar, Moore & Kim) to a host of totally new players ranging from Abdoulaye Meite to Marek Cech, Zuiverloon earned 33% of the fans vote to come out on top.

Zuiverloon missed the opening day defeat at the Emirates due to Olympic duty, but despite jetlag produced a stellar performance on his debut, the home defeat to Everton. He continued his good form into the Bolton game, and when fit looks like he will be Mowbray`s first choice centre-back. Deadline weekend deals for fellow Dutchman Ryan Donk and Dutch-based defender Jonas Olssen came in too late for inclusion in the poll.

Just behind Zuiverloon, and in front for much of the poll, was record signing Borja Valero, bought in from pre-season opponents Real Mallorca. He earned 28% of the vote and has already shown flashes of genuine class - despite taking a battering in the Carling Cup capitulation that was his debut.

My own nomination was twice capped goalie Scott Carson - although with a measly 7% of the vote, not all fans agree. He, like both Zuiverloon and Kim, who garnered 14%, have started the season with some very encouraging performances. Moore, Bednar, Dorrans and Cech amassed 16% of the votes between them, whilst Meite got the wooden spoon with just 2% - though he obviously was not recruited primarily for excitement reasons.

The full results of the poll are as follows:

Zuiverloon 33%

Cech 3%

Dorrans 5%

Bednar 4%

Kim 14%

Carson 7%

Meite 2%

Valero 28%

Moore 4%

Zuiverloon is certainly my choice for a player that excites. He is a dynamic attacking defender that has improved the defence immeasurably. His signing will mean that the Baggies will stay up this season.
