Today's Birmingham Mail reports that the Baggies are close to signing Slovakian international left back, Marek Cech.
The Mail's usually reliable Chris Lepkowski advises that Cech arrived in Birmingham yesterday with his agent, Juraj Venglos for talks with the club.
Cech has played 27 times for Slovakia and joined Porto in the 2005/06 season from Sparta Prague making 80 appearances for them.
If Cech is signed it surely puts a question mark over the future of Paul Robinson, Albion's talismanic yet erratic full back.
Robinson has yet to agree a new contract and his current contract is due to expire at the end of the season. Robinson will feel further pressured by the emergence of promising young left back Lee Baker who has thankfully now recovered from the injury that kept him out for the whole of last season. Baker is very highly rated at the club and he could be pressing for a first team start sooner rather than later.
There are rumours of further defensive signings within the next week but as always the club is keeping its targets a closely guarded secret.
Mowbray is also looking to strengthen every department of the first team squad and the signs are there that the Board is prepared to back him. This could be a very exciting couple of weeks for Baggies fans.
