West Brom Boss Delighted

Having spent the entire game looking as miserable Steve McClaren on a wet Wednesday night at Wembley, Albion boss Tony Mowbray was delighted as his side defeated Bristol Rovers 5-1 on their turf.

Hat-trick hero Ishmael Miller did the lion’s share of the work, with substitute Kevin Phillips chipping in. Albion took an early lead as James Morrison captalised from a woeful (and not the last) error from the Rovers keeper Steve Phillips. The game was a fascinating affair and it was clear that the giant killings that have gone on all weekend in the quarter finals had an effect on the performances of the two sides. Speaking to Sky Sports News Mowbray said:

“We've all watched the games this weekend in amazement and seen the underdogs winning game after game after game.”

“Whilst it was a very, very tough game for a long period, ultimately the scoreline suggests it was comfortable. I don't feel it ever was comfortable and I was delighted we have got strikers on the field who can score goals.”

Turning his attention to what has been a goal-crazy bunch of forwards, Mowbrary was similarly as positive:

“Ishmael has always been immense since he joined the football club, initially on loan. He has scored goals almost every time he has been on the pitch. His power, his pace, his finishing quality is evident for all to see.

“It's great to have Kevin Phillips on the bench. Roman Bednar worked hard for little reward today, who has scored bags of goals as well this season for us.”
